AVG Free downloaded from leading Italian download site more than one million times over a one-month period

Italy, 2008, July 16 - AVG Technologies, developer of the AVG range of Internet security software, announced today that its AVG Free basic security product has crossed the threshold of one million downloads through www.html.it, Italy’s leading software download site, between June 14th and July 14th 2008. AVG Free was downloaded by more than one million users in that period, the highest number ever achieved by any software product in Italy in a one month period (see http://download.html.it) The total number of AVG Free downloads through html.it between the launch of the English-language AVG Free 8.0 in April 2008 and today is about 3.300.000 downloads.

The high number of downloads reinforces the product’s continuing and growing appeal to a broad spectrum of Italian users. AVG Free has been the most downloaded application on html.it between June 14th and July 14th 2008. The only other free anti-virus product in the top ten downloads is Avast, which was the ninth most downloaded application with only 20 percent of the downloads achieved by AVG during the same period.

AVG Free provides core protection against viruses and spyware and includes the just-in-time safe-searching component of the company’s patent-pending LinkScanner® technology. The AVG Free product does not include the proactive safe-surfing component of the full LinkScanner module that is included with the commercial AVG products, nor the extended protection against hackers, keyloggers, spam, phishing attacks, and malicious file downloads. AVG Free 8.0 is intended for personal and non-commercial use on single computers running Windows 2000, XP or Vista, and is currently available in English, Japanese, and Italian. While AVG Technologies does not provide support for AVG Free 8.0, the company hosts a website and forum for user-driven support at http://gratis.avg.it.
